This study aims to design and validate a comprehensive model for identifying the determinants of placemaking with emphasis on enhancing social interactions in the urban spaces of Sanandaj. This applied research employed a quantitative descriptive–analytical approach. The statistical population consisted of Sanandaj residents, from whom 271 participants were selected using Cochran’s formula and stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire comprising 30 items across 10 constructs. Instrument validity was confirmed by experts and reliability achieved a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.89. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS and LISREL through structural equation modeling. Structural equation modeling revealed that physical quality, safety, accessibility, local identity and culture, socio-economic functions, natural environment, spatial justice, and urban management exert significant positive effects on placemaking. Placemaking also demonstrated a strong direct and significant effect on social interactions. Model fit indices (RMSEA=0.047, CFI=0.94, χ²/df=1.98) confirmed excellent model adequacy. Placemaking constitutes a core mechanism for strengthening social interactions and improving urban quality of life in Sanandaj, requiring an integrated approach to urban design and governance.
