Abstract

The present study aims to offer a critical examination of the historical personality of Zell-e Soltan, a Qajar prince and the eldest adult son of Naser al-Din Shah, focusing on his role in the destruction of artistic and historical monuments in Isfahan, through the application of Freud’s theory of hysteria with particular attention to the role of ego strength. The research method is based on library sources, scholarly articles, and online resources. The analysis centers on ego strength in the manifestation of hysterical disorder in Zell-e Soltan’s personality and the emergence of its symptoms as a basis for a critical interpretation of this historical figure. It further examines the extent to which the emergence of this phenomenon influenced the course of art history and its orientation during the Qajar period, particularly in Isfahan.
