This study aimed to explain the impact of interactive urban art on aesthetic experience, social interaction, and sense of place in urban public spaces in Tehran and to examine the mediating roles of aesthetic experience and social interaction. This applied quantitative study employed a descriptive-correlational design in 2026. The study population consisted of Tehran residents aged 18 years or older who had direct experience with interactive urban artworks in public spaces. A total of 384 participants were selected through multistage and convenience sampling. Data were collected using a multidimensional questionnaire assessing interactive urban art, aesthetic experience, social interaction, and sense of place. Content validity was evaluated by 10 experts, while reliability was examined using Cronbach’s alpha and composite reliability. Data were analyzed in SPSS version 29 and SmartPLS version 4 using Pearson correlation, structural equation modeling, and 5,000-sample bootstrapping. Interactive urban art had significant positive effects on aesthetic experience (β=0.67, p<0.001), social interaction (β=0.58, p<0.001), and sense of place (β=0.19, p<0.001). Aesthetic experience (β=0.37, p<0.001) and social interaction (β=0.32, p<0.001) also positively predicted sense of place. The indirect effect of interactive urban art on sense of place was significant through aesthetic experience (β=0.25, p<0.001) and social interaction (β=0.19, p<0.001), confirming partial mediation. The model explained 62% of the variance in sense of place, and the SRMR value was 0.061. Interactive urban art can strengthen citizens’ sense of place by enriching aesthetic experience and facilitating social interaction; therefore, integrating sensory, participatory, and social dimensions into urban art design may enhance the quality of public-space experience and citizens’ attachment to place.
